About the role

We currently have a full-time fixed-term position for a Youth Development Officer based at our Darley office. This role will focus on the delivery of the YES program, which targets young people who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from education and/or employment.

Working with the Youth Services Team, the Youth Development Officer will work in innovative ways with services and the community to engage with, support and empower young people to reach their full potential.

In this role you will plan, develop and deliver a range of programs and events in collaboration with young people that support the outcomes of the YES program, and other programs of the youth services when needed. Through advocacy you will promote a positive profile of young people, raising community awareness of their needs, issues and achievements. Liaising with young people, youth/community groups and local agencies on an ongoing basis with the aim of supporting existing services and promoting the development of new, flexible youth services which promote youth engagement and inclusion in decision making.

About you

You will be tertiary qualified in Youth Work, Social Work, Teaching or Community Services and have relevant experience in programs and services for young people aged 12-25 years, hold a current Level 2 First Aid including CPR and a current Working With Children Check. We are seeking someone who has the flexibility to work outside regular business hours as required.

The successful applicant will also have a good understanding of the principles and practices of youth service provision and community engagement, along with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries with young people aged 12-25 years.
