- Cafe Coordinator: 16 hours per week, flexible hours across Monday - Thursday.
The Meeting Room Café opened 2 years ago, and has quickly become a beacon for those in the community who seek connection, a meal, and friendship. The purpose of the café is to create a welcoming space for people who are experiencing loneliness, and other hardships.
The Coordinator will be responsible for its smooth day-to-day running. As a member of staff the Coordinator will be responsible for key infrastructure and operational functions whilst being involved in the strategic and operational planning of The Meeting Room.
The Meeting Room is seeking new ways of reaching and supporting our most vulnerable at a time when so many people are experiencing disconnection and loneliness. You will be experienced in both hospitality and community service with qualifications and training suitable to the role.
People are invited to visit The Meeting Room to participate in organised activities, enjoy free meals/refreshments, listen to music, seek advice or simply chat to volunteers and other members of the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Management and Leadership
- Take ownership of all the activities whilst guiding your team to be part of a friendly, committed and supportive environment
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally
- Encourage, establish, and manage all relationships including clients, customers, volunteers, staff, stakeholders, and the committee of management
- Utilise your strategic skill and experience to lead, support and develop new and existing projects
- Work closely with and report directly to the CEO.
Operational
- Implement and maintain a safe space for all volunteers, clients, and customers by adhering to MCSC Policies and Procedures
- Checking the quantity and quality of supplies and equipment on a daily basis
- Ensure provision of schedules for all daily routines
- Oversee written communications in regard to organising/advertising of events/meetings/conferences in conjunction with outside organisations
Volunteers
- Liaise with MCSC HR Coordinator in regard to formal volunteer checks
- Oversee operation and management of all volunteers, ensuring adherence to regulations and quality standards
- Interview, train, supervise, and support the wellbeing of all volunteers in their roles. Essential training includes:

- Orientation
- OHS
- Food safety
- Barista (optional)
- Manage volunteer roster for the café
- Supervise and evaluate volunteers on an ongoing basis
- Manage volunteer complaints when necessary
Client experience
- Supporting vulnerable clients with activities, social conversation, food and beverages, whilst referring to support workers when required
- Ensure health and safety of all clients/customers at all times
- Manage customer complaints when necessary
Financial and reporting responsibility
- Assume responsibility of budgeting and monitoring of operational expenses
- Ensure all information and records are kept properly and consistently
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of safeguarding professional boundaries and confidentiality practice
- Prepare reports in a timely fashion for senior management when required
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of the community sector and the needs of the local Mornington Peninsula community
- A demonstrated ability to lead and support a team of staff or volunteers
- Excellent hospitality skills
- All staff must undertake a Police Check before commencing employment, and all staff are required to obtain a Working with Children Check
- Qualification or related experiencing in hospitality, community service or training.

- Experience with volunteering
