Mount Eliza Neighbourhood House Inc is looking for a community minded person for the role of Chairperson to commence from the organisations’ Annual General Meeting in mid-November 2022.

The key roles of Chairperson are to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Board
  • Build teamwork within the Board
  • Work with the Manager to set meeting agendas
  • Approve the agenda before distribution prior to meetings
  • Facilitate the meeting, making sure all items are covered efficiently and that everyone has the opportunity to be heard
  • Bring the meeting to consensus or agreement
  • Work with the Secretary on the business to be conducted at each meeting
  • Review minutes of meetings and ensure they are signed correctly
  • Focus the Board on matters of governance and strategy
  • Mentor and support Board members
  • Work with the other Board members to recruit new Board members
  • Periodically consult with Board members on their roles and help them assess their performance
  • Coordinate Manager’s annual performance evaluation
  • Assist Manager in conducting new Board member orientation
  • Be readily available to the Manager for support and discussion as required
  • Act as alternate spokesperson for the House
  • Work in partnership with the Manager for the benefit of the House
  • Work in partnership with the Manager to make sure Board resolutions are carried out
  • Ensure the Board behaves consistently with its own rules as well as externally imposed rules
  • Ensure discussions are fair, open and thorough, as well as timely, orderly and relevant
  • Chair other meetings — annual and special general meetings (AGMs)
  • Institute the process for appraising the Board as a whole
  • Plan for the succession of the Manager

Prior experience of Governance in the Neighbourhood House Sector is preferred.

Mt Eliza Neighbourhood House’s purpose is to provide social connection to reduce isolation and loneliness in a safe, inviting, non-judgmental environment regardless of age, religion, political views, or gender. We will act to:

  • Reduce isolation and provide a safe space for the community to reconnect and links to services in the area
  • Increase membership of the Neighbourhood House
  • Provide pathways for learning through a suite of programs and events
  • Reconnect with community members following COVID 19 with recent phone calls, emails, and face-to-face conversations
  • Advocate for community members
  • Collaboration with other organizations and services
  • Increase programs offered to the community
  • Empower community members to address their needs

OUR STRATEGIC GOALS

  • Within the context of the above and our values (below), our strategic focus will be to Increase our connection with our community by:
    • reconnecting with all those who were members before the isolation because of the Covid19 pandemic, to encourage the renewal of their activities with MENH
    • creating new connections by partnerships with schools and other community organisations
  • Re-energize our existing programs and develop new programs to target the demographics we are not reaching, such as school age children and those in the workforce
  • Strengthen our visibility in the local and surrounding community by developing an appropriate marketing plan
