The Naala Djookan Healing Centre
Naala Djookan Healing Centre is a specialist service that supports women and their children who are experiencing and/ or are affected by family and domestic violence (FDV). Wholly funded by the Western Australian Department of Communities, Naala Djookan Healing Centre is the first suburban-based family and domestic violence (FDV) hub to be operationalised in Western Australia and is located in Mirrabooka.
The Centre operates within a Consortium model of ten local service organisations who collaborate together to provide a range of integrated and evidence-based support options that include group programs, individual advocacy, trauma-responsive counselling, financial counselling, Legal Aid appointments, community education workshops, events and training. Naala Djookan staff work in a flexible and client-led practice model to support the safety, recovery and goals of the women and children who connect with our service.

Reporting Relationships
Reporting is in accordance with the Healing Centre reporting matrix:
- Day-to-day reporting is to the Coordinator – Naala Djookan Healing Centre for operational matters and to the Integrated Practice Lead for caseload supervision and professional development.
- Employer responsibility reporting is to Manager, Community Services at MSC. including timesheet recording, payroll management and employment responsibilities including regular performance reviews.
- MSCWA will work collaboratively with Naala Djookan Healing Centre Senior Coordinator to identify any training and development needs in relation to the Advocate role.
Position Overview
Advocates at Naala Djookan Healing Centre work alongside women, their children and non-offending family members to identify goals that support safety, healing and recovery from the impacts of family and domestic violence.
Advocates are guided by the Centre’s Integrated Practice Framework to provide flexible, trauma-informed and client-led support options.
Position Objectives
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Conduct the intake and safety planning process with new clients to ensure immediate risks are met, relevant documentation is completed (including Common Risk Assessment and Risk Management Framework) and clients are aware of their rights and responsibilities and the services that The Healing Centre can provide.
- Work in consultation with the Integrated Practice Lead and Senior Coordinator to provide inclusive and culturally safe programs and services.
- Work alongside clients to provide a range of information and support options including but not limited to: safety planning, financial planning, housing support, court support and advocacy, and/or referral to other agencies, to enable clients to make informed choices to enhance their safety and wellbeing, prevent homelessness, and increase self-determination and empowerment.
- Increase women, children and families’ understanding of their experience of family and domestic violence as well as the ongoing impacts (trauma).
- Enter client data into data management system maintaining concise, accurate records of case management in accordance with relevant management practices and procedures.
- Work alongside clients to build supportive networks within the community that will provide ongoing support and reduce isolation.
- Actively participate in team meetings, case management procedures, supervision as well as network and agency meetings.
- Being part of a team that is committed to creating a best-practice learning environment where staff wellbeing and trauma-resilience practices are fostered.
- Adhere to the Healing Centre’s Policies and Procedures.
- Attend regular training and personal development to keep skills and knowledge current with changing trends and information.
- Maintaining a relationship with, and adhering to, MSCWA policies and procedures.
- Participate in relevant OSH training.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature from time to time may be required in consultation with the Senior Coordinator and Integrated Practice Lead.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (social work, psychology, social sciences, community services) and demonstrated significant experience in related field.
- Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills including the ability to foster effective partnerships with other agencies and engage community members.
- A well-developed ability to assist others via a case management approach, to understand the implications of Trauma and attachment theories and their relationship to family and domestic violence.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments and form positive working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of family and domestic violence issues affecting both women and children including those from culturally and linguistically diverse and Indigenous backgrounds.
- Demonstrated high standard of computer skills, knowledge of MS Office and ability to learn new computer software programs and database.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Government and community agencies and resources that assist families impacted by family and domestic violence and/or homelessness.
- Skills and experience in relationship management and collaboration with a range of different stakeholders.
- High standard of verbal and written communication skills.
Highly Desirable:
- An understanding of Western Australia’s CALD communities.
- Fluency in a language other than English.
- Experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
