The opportunity:

We are looking for customer centric and engaging Laboratory administrators who are passionate about providing excellent service in our Laboratory Services Group.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing pre and post analytic administrative duties which may include, data entry of all patient data using laboratory management software, resource packing and sending. You may also be involved with specimen reception, checking incoming specimens, organising samples received and registering them.

As much responsibility as possible will be given to staff for dealing with these duties and a highly responsible attitude to the laboratory’s work will be required to perform these tasks to the standard necessary to support our high-quality service.

Customer Care operates from 7am-7pm Monday-Friday. Therefore, please note before applying for this position you must be flexible and willing to work at any time during our operating hours when required.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the VCGS laboratories in daily activities by data entering, reviewing scanned images, and troubleshooting where required
  • Staffing the specimen reception area of the laboratory and either dealing with issues directly or seeking out relevant laboratory staff to assist
  • Checking incoming specimens and request forms conforming to standards detailed in the Specimen Reception Management Policy & Procedure Manual
  • Assembly and packing of resources for clients including request forms and sample kits

About you:

  • Strong computer literacy skills including the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • LIMS experience advantageous
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in pathology, medical or research setting will be highly desired

Victorian Clinical Genetics Service (VCGS) is a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and provides a wholly integrated genetic testing, diagnostic and counselling service for health professionals, patients and their families across Victoria, Australia and globally.

Our clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors work in close consultation with our medical scientists to provide the most accurate interpretation for complex genetic tests.

VCGS also plays a pivotal role in research and development, driving translational research and policy development in the field of genetics.
