About IWSS Inc.

The Immigrant Women’s Support Service (IWSS) is a non-profit, feminist organisation committed to providing services that recognise and promote the rights of women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and their children.

IWSS Inc. is funded by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, to provide a domestic violence and a sexual violence service response to women from CALD backgrounds and their children.  The Department of Social Services provides funding for the emergency relief program.  The organisation also receives additional funding from time to time for other projects.

Services provided by IWSS

IWSS provides a range of support services to women from CALD backgrounds and their children affected by domestic and/or sexual violence. These services are offered free of charge through a case management approach. An integrated approach to the delivery of these services incorporates the needs identified by the women accessing the service.

Services include: 

  • Case management
  • Counselling/advocacy
  • Crisis support
  • Individual Advocacy
  • Information and referral
  • Community education

Short-listing Process

  • Applicants will be short-listed against the selection criteria and demonstrated experience outlined in resume/curriculum vitae. 
  • Short-listed applicants will be advised of the time and date for an interview within three weeks of the closing date.

Interview Process

  • Short-listed applicants will be invited to an interview with the selection panel consisting of a representative from the Management Committee, the IWSS Director and a third panel member.
  • Applicants will be provided with a copy of a set of questions for perusal at the time of arrival at the interview.  
  • At the conclusion of the interview, applicants will be given time to ask questions from the selection panel.
  • Applicants must provide the following documents at the time of the interview
    • a certified copy of the applicant’s educational qualifications; and 
    • evidence of immigration status/ability to work in Australia (further checks will be conducted); and
    • a certified copy of a valid and current Blue Card; and evidence of COVID-19 vaccination

Professional Referee Checks

  • Referee checks will be conducted after the interviews are finalised.
  • At least one referee should have been a recent direct supervisor.  For applicants who are not currently in the workforce, referees should be able to provide feedback on the applicant’s abilities in relation to the selection criteria.

Selection Process

  • The applicant selected for the position will be contacted by a panel member. The applicant should provide the panel member with the time required to give notice to her current employer if required.
  • Once the above documents are received, a letter of employment will be sent out to the applicant with a contract outlining the conditions of employment and commencing date.  The contract must be signed and returned to the address provided.
  • All applicants will be advised of the outcome of the selection process after the appointment of the successful applicant is endorsed by the Management Committee.
  • Feedback for unsuccessful applicants will be provided on request only.
