  • This is a fixed term appointment until 30 September 2024, with the possibility of extension.

ABOUT IWSS INC.

The Immigrant Women’s Support Service (IWSS) is a non-profit, feminist organisation committed to providing services that recognise and promote the rights of women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and their children.

IWSS Inc. is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General, to provide a domestic violence and a sexual violence service response to women from immigrant and refugee backgrounds and their children.  The organisation also receives additional funding from time to time for other projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE  

As a Caseworker at IWSS, you will provide culturally sensitive and appropriately skilled responses to women affected by domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault. 

This role involves delivering specialist counselling and case management services to women from the Japanese speaking community in Australia. 

IWSS is a women’s only service and it is a genuine occupational requirement that workers be women (as permitted under Sections 25 and 104 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991).

ESSENTIAL

  • Commitment to feminist philosophy.
  • Relevant qualifications and case management experience in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma and its impacts
  • Ability to identify and assess significant risk of harm and enact mandatory reporting responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and in particular legal services.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word and MS Office products.
  • Current Driver’s licence.
