  • Location: South East Queensland, or other from IWSS premises or home office
  • Employment Type: Part-time; fixed term until March 2026
  • Hours: 38 hours per fortnight. Additional hours may be possible.
  • SCHADS Level 4 – 5, depending on experience

We are seeking a suitably qualified practitioner who speaks fluent Japanese and has expertise in Japanese culture. 

The Immigrant Women’s Support Service provides information and support, counselling and case management for women and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault and have come to Australia as migrants, as refugees or on temporary visas. We priorities women and children whose first language is other than English.

About the Role

As a practitioner responding to domestic, family and sexual violence at IWSS you will provide culturally sensitive and appropriately skilled responses to women from the Japanese speaking community who are affected by domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A commitment to the philosophy and values of IWSS
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in social/behavioural science, social work or related field.
  • Proficiency in English and Japanese languages and in depth knowledge of the Japanese culture, including gender specific issues
  • Knowledge of and experience in working in the area of violence against women, preferably with direct experience in the field.
  • Possession of a ‘blue card’ issued by the Department of Justice and Attorney General
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma and its impacts
  • A current driver’s license
  • Ability to identify and assess significant risk of harm and enact mandatory reporting responsibilities.
  • Australian citizenship, Residency status, or Visa allowing unrestricted work rights.
