ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

At Midland Women’s Health Care Place, we aim to provide comfortable, caring and inclusive services for all women over 16 years of age in the East Metropolitan Area. A range of therapeutic health and wellbeing group activities provide a safe, soft entry point for health promotion, education, skills development, fitness and engagement. Our purpose is to empower, strengthen and improve the well-being of all women and families for stronger futures. We recognise that individual women can be vulnerable at different times because of factors including social & economic disadvantage, disability, sexuality or sexual preference, ethnicity and age. Nardine Women’s Refuge provides safe accommodation for women, and children up to 17 years old, experiencing domestic and family violence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Board drives the strategic direction of the organisation, supporting the CEO to achieve the vision and mission. The successful board member will have with specialist skills in either mental health standards, domestic and family violence and women's health and wellbeing.

In doing so the appointed board member will need to:

  • Attend monthly board meetings (either at Midland or online) and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Assist the board in ensuring good governance, with a focus on mental health standards, women’s health and wellbeing, and domestic and family violence-related issues.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and strategies to ensure high-quality services in these areas.
  • Collaborate with other board members and staff to achieve the organisations goals.
  • Uphold the values and mission of the organisation.

ABOUT YOU

The right board member will have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in mental health standards, women’s health and wellbeing, domestic and family violence, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Experience working in the mental health sector, and/or in women’s health and domestic and family violence advocacy or support services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to collective decision-making.
  • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Previous board experience is an advantage, but not essential.

The current board members are dedicated, friendly and committed to the wellbeing of women and families in the community.
