This position is responsible for providing case management to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds with a focus on those on temporary visas. The position works to develop a coordinated network of support and to promote young peoples’ connectedness with family, school, peers, services and the community. This role has been specifically created during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the increase in young people’s need for support during these unprecedented times.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (i.e. social work, youth work, community development), or working towards attaining them, or work experience in the refugee and/or youth sector.
- Case work experience and demonstrated ability to engage complex young people and their families.
- Genuine commitment to social justice and a sound understanding of the issues affecting young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
- An understanding of youth participation, youth and community development and cultural accountability principles and knowledge of support services.
- Ability to manage own work and the capacity to work effectively in small teams with shared case-loads across programs.
- Strong verbal communication skills and well-developed written communication skills.
- Creativity, flexibility and adaptability to work in changing environments.
Desirable Criteria
- Ability to speak an additional language common to young people of migrant and refugee backgrounds e.g. Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Mandarin.
