Nadrasca’s Purpose is to Establish and Develop a Range of Services for People with a Disability. The Position

The Registered Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care and support to individuals with disabilities and work to advance health and wellbeing outcomes for the people we support under the NDIS quality practice standards framework. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the health and well-being of people supported.

This will be achieved through clinical assessment of people with high medical, mental health and/or complex needs, and advice, training and instruction to staff around the provision of health support. It will also involve individual advocacy and engagement with people supported their families and the healthcare system. Some systemic advocacy initiatives with key partners may also be required to improve health outcomes for people with disabilities.

Accountability

As part of the wider quality, safeguards and practice team, this role will conduct comprehensive health assessments and develop Individualised Disability Related Health Support Plans for people supported and provide advice, support, coaching and education to people supported, their families and staff about health management and preventive care.

The role will focus on championing and promoting a safe and supportive environment for people supported and staff.

The position is accountable and reports to the GMQSP for the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of a range of tasks within predetermined budget, quality, and time constraints.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement evidence-based nursing practices and update clinical protocols to meet NDIS standards.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and advise on training content to meet health needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate care plans and mentor Operational Managers and Coordinators.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and provide complex care, including wound care and chronic condition management.
  • Engage with stakeholders to develop individualized care plans and ensure continuity of care.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, conduct risk assessments, and implement infection control procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety, encourage open communication, and participate in safety audits.
  • Engage in continuous improvement through feedback, data utilization, and collaboration with other departments.

You will have:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent.
  • Significant experience (3-years) working with adults and/or children with a disability who have complex or high support medical needs.
  • Current knowledge and demonstrated experience in clinical health assessment, planning, and advocacy for adults and/or children with a disability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NDIS Practice Standards, high intensity skills descriptors and legislation.
  • Proven capability to provide expert advice and support to employees and leaders in meeting legislative and regulatory requirements.

Skills and Attributes

  • Expertise and Knowledge: Understanding of supported decision-making, disability rights, trauma-informed practice, and in-depth knowledge of health and disability sectors, including NDIS.
  • Experience and Skills: Experience in training support staff, coordinating care for people with complex needs, and proven leadership in supporting Disability Support Workers.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and written skills, along with relationship building, negotiation, and influencing abilities.
  • Organizational and Problem-Solving Abilities: Effective time management, organizational skills, well-developed problem-solving, strategic thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Personal Attributes: Empathy, compassion, adaptability, resilience, cultural sensitivity, and proficiency in using computers and MS Office applications.
