Job description

The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) funds research led by and with people with disability. It supports a collaborative and inclusive disability research program that builds evidence for successful policy and practice. It is guided by the NDRP guiding principles.

The NDRP is a key initiative under Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031. It will be instrumental in building the evidence base for the Strategy and beyond to improve outcomes for people with disability.

This role provides high level project management to support the commissioned research pilot project funded by the Department of Social Services. This role works closely with the CEO, the NDRP team, the disability community, government, and the research team(s) funded to deliver the commissioned research.

About the role

This position, reporting to the CEO, will facilitate the successful implementation of the commissioned research project, working closely across the team to ensure the research is led by and with people with disability, aligned to the NDRP principles.

Responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Establishing and implementing the commissioned research project management infrastructure, including detailed work plan, reporting structures and supporting the external evaluation.
  • Developing accessible tools and resources, funding guidelines, information and learning approaches to support inclusive research through continual feedback mechanisms within the team, and through the external evaluation and the NDRP advisory and governance structures.
  • Providing guidance and support to the funded research team(s) to ensure the commissioned research project is developed and delivered aligned with the NDRP guiding principles and organisational activities to strengthen research capacity and mobilise evidence for action, ensuring the lessons are embedded into the NDRP ways of working.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with a range of stakeholders including research teams, Disabled People’s Organisations and Disability Representative Organisations, other funding agencies and government to ensure the project's success.
  • Facilitating a range of meetings and high-level secretariat support to the project advisory group and actively role modelling NDRP priority for access and inclusion.

We have a small team will all pitch in and support each other including the Head of Research Programs, Head of Evidence to Action, the Operations Lead and Communications Lead.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusive research and evidence generation.

Ideally you will have:

  • Strong understanding of and experience in the Australian disability policy with a particular focus on the NDIS and support systems for people with disability outside the NDIS such as health, education and housing.
  • Sound knowledge of co-design and co-production of research, research processes and practices including research ethics, methodologies, funding processes and research institution structures.
  • Understanding of disability inclusive research practices, gained through working with the disability community.
  • Experience in designing and implementing major projects or initiatives, including work planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • An innovative approach and the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment and generate solutions and ideas.
  • A commitment to a human rights based approach and the NDRP principles.
  • Lived experience of disability would be ideal but isn’t essential.
