ABOUT THE NATIONAL JUSTICE PROJECT
The National Justice Project was established in 2015 as a not-for-profit legal service & civil rights organisation dedicated to tackling systemic injustice, discrimination, and racism. Our vision is to create a fairer society where individuals are treated equally and live safely without discrimination. We’re independent and courageous, with a proven track record of working with people and communities harmed by the government. National Justice Project use the law, education, and effective advocacy to eradicate injustice, discrimination, and racism through systemic change. We are a small, dedicated team from legal and other professional disciplines, who work collaboratively to advocate for great outcomes for our clients, and to ensure meaningful strategic outcomes across Australia’s legal landscape. These cases and inquests have set important legal precedents, having a significant impact in the lives of our clients and the boarder community.
The National Justice Project recognises that First Nations sovereignty over this land has never been ceded. We acknowledge and celebrate the living law, knowledges, cultures, histories, perspectives, and languages, which First Nations Peoples hold. The National Justice Project commits to working alongside First Nations communities to create a platform and amplify the sovereign voices of First Nations Peoples. The National Justice Project are committed to working toward reconciliation with First Nations Peoples and we want all our staff and volunteers to be committed to this also.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a talented campaign content creator and copywriter to join our one-of-a-kind team, advocating for alternative first responders to police. The campaign team will be advocating for legislative change, policy and funding commitments, whilst driving national narrative around why we need to re-think the default use of police as first responders to health and social call-outs. As part of The National Justice Project, you will play a key role in a passionate organisation that boldly fights against injustice.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Projects and Innovation, working closely with the campaign lead day-to-day. You’ll be part of a small but impactful team that thrives on collaboration. While independent work is essential, we believe our best results come when we work together as a team.
A strong understanding of political writing and/or advocacy work is crucial and how best to make content digestible to wider audiences. Narrative and storytelling will be a significant component for the campaign’s strategic advocacy and awareness building.
The campaign content will need to be accessible to diverse audiences, so an adaptive, creative, and strategic writing approach will be essential. You’ll be responsible for creating content that aligns with our campaign goals, shines a light on community efforts, and challenges the status quo of police involvement in responding to health and social issues in Australia. Discretion and knowing how to handle sensitive content will be a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Content Creation and storytelling: You will be expected to work with the campaign’s evidence and research base and transform complex policy and advocacy topics into accessible, engaging, and impactful content that aligns with the campaign’s strategic goals, key messages, and advocacy priorities. This includes creating campaign e-newsletters, blogs, media releases, policy briefs, and public statements. The role will prioritise the ongoing development of narratives and storytelling to effectively communicate the campaign's message for alternative first responders. An understanding of design will be highly preferable.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Projects and Innovation, and Campaign Lead to design and maintain a consistent brand, tone of voice, and messaging across all campaign materials.
- Engagement & Accessibility: Develop creative and compelling content that resonates with a diverse audience, engaging the public through innovative storytelling that highlights community issues and advocacy.
- Campaign Innovation: Implement creative tactics and content design to boost engagement, mobilise supporters, and promote community-driven advocacy efforts.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with campaign brand guidelines and messaging.
- Political Awareness: Stay aware of the political landscape and relevant media, identifying trends and opportunities to optimise campaign content creation and public engagement.
- Strategic Problem Solving: Offer critical judgement to navigate challenges including media issues, escalate decisions when necessary, and recommend strategies for navigating complex communication moments.
- Supporter Mobilisation: Collaborate with the campaign team to activate and mobilise supporters during key moments in the campaign, driving action and engagement.

If you can demonstrate relevant work history and experience, you will be considered for the role.)
