ROLE PURPOSE

This role’s purpose is to win concrete results for nature in accordance with NCC’s priority issues and strategic objectives, through situation analysis, campaign planning, and driving tactics and actions alongside NCC teams and networks.

This role will have a focus on movement building for nature through taking up the opportunities presented by the current NSW nature law reform process. This position will have a focus on engaging supporters, NCC member groups, allies, industries, donors and the community to build power and influence and take up political opportunities to defend important habitats across NSW.

Location: Anywhere in NSW

Employee Type: Part time (0.6 FTE) for 12 months with the potential for extension

Salary: $85,355 (SCHAADS Award Level 4.1 [pro-rata]), plus superannuation

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute campaign plans to achieve concrete impacts, aligned with our organisation's goals;
  • Work across NCC teams to deliver our habitat campaign;
  • Prioritise campaign activities to ensure NCC’s effort is focused on the most urgent issues to create lasting change for nature and our climate;
  • Foster alliances and coordinate with the NSW climate and nature movements, and strategic non-traditional alliances;
  • Seek out opportunities to work in solidarity and centre the voices of First Nations peoples in our campaigns;
  • Engage supporters, member groups, donors and the community through practical and meaningful campaign actions designed to make a tangible difference to campaign objectives;
  • Develop real-world policy solutions to campaign objectives by engaging industry experts and movement thinkers;
  • Produce clear, compelling communications alongside the communications team to engage and activate supporters and member groups, and shape the public debate;
  • Embody values of creativity, boldness, an appetite for risk-taking, and contribute to an inclusive and caring work culture.

Other roles and responsibilities

  • Work with all NCC teams to prioritise effectively and deliver on our priority campaigns, and assist with other projects and priorities as may be directed from time to time, which suit organisational requirements and are broadly consistent with the role
  • Some regional travel to facilitating meeting with communities, community groups, businesses and organisations, MPs and other political stakeholders as required

EXPERIENCE

  • Two or more years legislative or issue advocacy campaign experience with a political office, not-for-profit, trade union or similar organisation. Note NCC is a non-partisan organisation and welcomes candidates from across the political spectrum who share our core values
  • An understanding of community organising theory and practice
  • An ability to design campaign strategies and tactics that get results
  • Demonstrated experience with building and maintaining strong relationships and collaborative partnerships with traditional and non-traditional allies and other stakeholders
  • A talent for crafting clear and compelling campaign communication
  • Regional NSW location along with existing networks is desirable

Education: Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience.
