ROLE PURPOSE

The Healthy Ecosystems Program works in partnership and collaboration with Government agencies, consortiums and associations to provide high quality community engagement, education and training services to communities. Our team implements coordinated strategies to improve the function of ecosystems and resilience of our landscapes.

The Healthy Ecosystems Program currently consists of the Hotspots Fire Project (Hotspots), the Bushfire Program, and the Large Forest Owls Project. The Healthy Ecosystems Program Officer works with the Program Coordinators, the Healthy Ecosystems Program Director and associated Government and non-Government partners, to deliver each of these programs as well as the broader goals of the Healthy Ecosystems program.

Salary: SCHAADS Award Level 2 ($66,195.90 plus super) [pro-rata]

Employment Type: 12 months (parental leave cover) Commencing April 2025, part time (4 days per week)

key performance indicators

• Support delivery of the individual programs within the Healthy Ecosystems Program including Hotspots, Bushfire Program and Large Forest Owls Project.
• Develop resources that translate technical science into accessible and engaging information for landholders for each of the programs in the Healthy Ecosystems Program
• Manage the competing priorities of the individual programs within the Healthy Ecosystems Program to achieve milestones in a timely manner
• Work collaboratively as part of the NCC Healthy Ecosystems Program to achieve strategic goals
• Manage expense and administrative duties

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support Hotspots, Bushfire Program, and Large Forest Owls Coordinators with Committee requirements, office functions and administrative logistics
• Project manage program communications including newsletter development for Hotspots News Online, bushfire representative newsletter and the Fire and Restoration site
• Project manage website development and provide IT support for online registrations and workshop events
• Project manage development of Hotspots materials e.g. workshop reports, annual reports and landholder factsheets and case studies
• Support Project Coordinators with regional workshop delivery logistics
• Undertake a variety of tasks as directed by the Project Coordinators that supports the development and delivery of the Healthy Ecosystems Program (e.g. project planning, funding and reporting requirements).
• You may be required to perform other duties as directed from time to time to suit organisational requirements and which are broadly consistent with your role.

This position requires occasional work after hours and/or weekends including travel to workshops throughout NSW.

Previous experience

Essential:

• Commitment and passion for conservation and for the objectives of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW
• Research skills and an ability to present (both written and orally) technical information in a way that is engaging and accessible to landholders
• High level written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to project manage your own work to tight deadlines within a small project team

Desirable:

• Postgraduate or undergraduate ecology, fire ecology studies or similar
• Experience in working with community members in rural and urban areas
• Current driver’s license
• Knowledge of the terrestrial ecology of eastern NSW including the role of fire in maintaining landscape health and bushfire management
• Basic knowledge of NSW bush fire planning legislation and regulations
• Experience in online platforms including Google Earth, Six Maps, and other mapping platforms, EventBrite, Survey Monkey, Vimeo, WordPress, MS Office programs e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Education: Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience.
