Position Details

  • Part Time Permanent (0.6 to 0.9 FTE, multiple positions available)
  • Classification: SCHADS Level 4 with a salary range of $85,205 - $91,686 per annum (pro rata) maximum term contracts + Superannuation

About your new role

The Intake and Assessment Officers (IAO) will support the triage and assessment of referrals to Wellness Connect. The IAO will provide initial identification and assessment of individuals' needs, as well as assist people requiring information about mental health challenges and appropriate services. The officer will have responsibility for undertaking an assessment using the Commonwealth's Initial Assessment and Referral Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST),and work closely with the clinicians within the team to determine the level of need, and appropriateness for Wellness Connect.

The IAO will support the allocation process to ensure the consumer is allocated to the appropriate service delivery partner within the consortium. If it is determined the referred person is not appropriate for Wellness Connect, the IAO will support with outgoing referrals or provide service navigation information. The IAO will also support with wait-list management.

The Intake and Assessment Officers will work as part of a collaborative team approach, supported by the Clinical Lead and Service Manager, and will have regular opportunities to reflect upon their practice and access comprehensive training and supervision. Some administrative tasks will be part of the role to support the team

What you will bring to the role

Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of mental health intake, assessment and supporting consumers with presenting mental health concerns.
  • Engage consumers, using a strengths-based approach.
  • Experience working with client information systems, maintaining accurate documentation and data collection.
  • Uphold ethical behaviour, consistent with the values of honesty, fairness, responsibility and hope
  • Demonstrate integrity, credibility and ability to foster open communication
  • Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and to prioritise multiple tasks to meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to establish respectful professional relationships that have clear boundaries
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust to deal with sensitive and difficult situations in an empathetic manner.

  • Strong computer and organisation skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint

Desirable:

  • Experience as a support worker or peer worker, supporting consumers and helping navigate to referral pathways or knowledge of referral pathways.
  • Adequately trained in mental health assessment and referral skills; and
  • Experience using crisis intervention techniques and escalation procedures
  • High level computer skills with use of Excel and Microsoft, and the Carelink Database
  • Minimum Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services or Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or university qualification in a health/human services discipline.
