Neami's Mental Health and Wellbeing Local (Whittlesea Local) is an innovative solution to deliver on the compelling vision outlined through the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System (RCVMHS). Delivered in partnership with Uniting, Drummond Street Services (Drummond St) and Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS), the Whittlesea Local brings together four organisationsthat are leading providers with extensive experience and success in the delivery of community-based care. The Whittlesea Local will provide a 'no wrong door' approach and support members of the community to be connected to the right support. The centre will provide a holistic approach to care, addressing a range of social, physical, and emotional needs informed by the Collaborative Relational Practice (CRP). The Whittlesea Local will have a strong focus on lived experience and will support a high engagement, multi-disciplinary team model.
Peer Support Workers are integral members of the team and represent 50% of the workforce within the Neami Mental Health & Wellbeing Service. Peer Support workers apply Lived Experience learnings and principles to provide practical, social, and emotional support to foster connection, address social isolation and build skills, confidence, and resilience.
You must have personal lived/living experience of mental health challenges and/or situational distress and journey of wellbeing/healing and ability to intentionally use these learnings to purposefully support others.
You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team inclusive of mental health clinicians, mental health registered nurses, medical staff. Delivering a Peer First and Peer Last approach the Peer Support Workers will support a high engagement of care, through actively greeting and supporting consumers throughout their time at Neami Mental Health & Wellbeing Service.
Peer Support Workers are an important element of the team approach and bring the wisdom of experience to many aspects of service delivery including, service promotion, partnership work and case reviews.
The Community and Pathways team is centred on community outreach and collaborative care planning. You will lead a team of Peer Support workers to work alongside a transdisciplinary team inclusive of mental health clinicians, mental health registered nurses, medical officers, and consultant psychiatrists.
