NECCHi (Newlands and East Coburg Community Hubs Inc.) is a community run, member-based, not for profit organisation and registered charity operating out of two unique neighbourhood houses on the unceded land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated manager, who is a creative and reflective community development practitioner who can facilitate community engagement activities and develop and deliver NECCHi’s next strategic plan. Supporting and developing our staff, and building strong relationships in our community, are important parts of the role.

The Manager will be responsible for the management of both sites and of our staff team. The amount of time spent at each site will vary and depend on activities, projects and staff requirements.

Responsibilities

The role of the Manager includes the following key responsibilities. Detailed information on each of these responsibilities can be found in the attached Position Description.

  • Community development, including strengthening and enhancing partnerships with community stakeholders and residents; encouraging and resourcing community initiatives; and community engagement.
  • Management and operations, including overseeing all aspects of day-to-day operations of the organisation, financial management, developing operational plans, and infrastructure development and maintenance.
  • Leadership of the organisation, including planning, developing and evaluating programs.
  • Sustainability and expansion, including developing creative strategies to build current practice, ensuring financial sustainability of the organisation, and managing risks.
  • Personnel, managing recruitment and support for all staff, volunteers, group facilitators and participants in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Relationships and partnerships, including building positive, inclusive and professional relationships in line with NECCHi values with all key stakeholders including community members, staff, volunteers, facilitators, and external stakeholders such as the broader neighbourhood house sector, Merri-Bek City Council, and Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
  • Reporting and accountability, including regular reporting to the Committee of Governance, supporting the Annual General Meeting and other governance requirements, and reporting obligations associated with funding agreements.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

  • Permanent part-time position (30hrs/week)
  • Workdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 8.30am-4.30pm
  • Some out of hours work required including attendance at monthly Committee of Governance meetings.
  • Classification: NHACE Collective Agreement 2018, SACS Level 7 (Paypoint 1, 2 or 3 depending on qualification & experience)
  • Salary range is $115,054.70 – $119,867.80 pro rata ($92,387.61 - $96,243.21) per annum, based on skills and experience + superannuation.
  • Annual leave loading of 17.5%
  • 4 weeks annual leave per annum with the option of purchasing up to an additional 8 weeks leave per annum

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • The Manager is directly accountable to the Committee of Governance (COG) through the Chairperson.
  • A member of the CoG (usually the Chair) will liaise directly with the Manager to provide job appraisal and support.
  • From time to time, the CoG may delegate certain tasks and responsibilities to the Manager.
  • The Manager will be responsible for job appraisal and support for all other positions within the organisation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience. High-level policy development skills, analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to provide effective leadership and design and implement strategic plans.
  • Expansive knowledge and demonstrated application of community development principles and practices. A proven record in implementing and supporting flexible and innovative approaches to community development in response to changing community needs. Suitable tertiary qualification(s) in Community Development or other relevant field is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in organisational strategic thinking and action. Proven ability in leading sustainability, viability and effectiveness of an organisation.
  • Demonstrated Not-for-Profit business acumen including the capacity to understand the financial position of an organisation, including extensive experience in budget development, analysis and monitoring. Entrepreneurial in generating funding for sustainable service delivery within an Incorporated Association.
  • A high level of interpersonal, cross cultural and communication skills including the ability to negotiate effectively and work through issues with staff, program participants, and other stakeholders. Commitment to diversity, including the ability to work with a range of people in appropriate, inclusive and innovative ways.
  • Experience and proven ability to manage and build positive relationships with a range of identified stakeholders and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to NECCHi’s values and vision, and the capacity to foster an inclusive and warm team culture.
