About Us

Newtown Kids’ Cottage (The Cottage) is the before and after school program connected to Newtown Public School - on Gadigal land, in Newtown, Sydney. The Cottage is proudly governed by a volunteer parent committee.

We run before and after school and vacation care programs for the kids who make up our community. Our workers are a diverse, passionate, and creative bunch with a variety of skills and experiences. We are looking to add to that team. At the Cottage, we love our workers - they are critical to our service - and our small number of permanent staff have decades of years of service between them.

We are particularly interested in those who are available to work part-time, including working across school holidays. We have some flexibility around working hours and may offer more than one part time role depending on the availability of applicants.

You will need to be available to work a variety of before, after and school holiday hours. Our operational hours are: BSC 7.30-9.00am, ASC 3-6pm, Vacation Care 7.30am-6pm. NKC management value planning and admin time outside of these hours.

About you

• You may have or be working towards qualifications in early education or education, youth, or related fields.
• You will have experience or a commitment and demonstrative transferable skills working with groups of children. You must have or be able to obtain a working with children check and be prepared to act in a Responsible Person role
• You may have a particular skill or interest to bring to our community and the kids: love cooking, can ride a unicycle, be an athlete, a crafter, an artist, a gardener, a scientist...
• You will be caring, accepting, committed to kids as little people.
• You will be a great team player and able to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our kids and community.
• You will have had experience and the skills to work alongside different stakeholders. The Cottage community is made up of kids, workers, our committee, families and the broader school and local community.
• You will be able to lead others across our team and be able to demonstrate leadership skills and experience.
