The Organisation

The Women’s Legal Centre (‘The Centre’) is a specialist women’s community legal centre providing crucial legal and social support services to women in Canberra to keep them safe and in control of their lives. Their mission is to use the legal system to improve women’s lives and advance gender equality. The Centre’s legal practice areas include Family Law, Employment, Discrimination and Sexual Harassment, Migration and the Sexual Violence Legal Service. The Centre also includes the Mulleun Mura Access to Justice Program, which is a specialist program for First Nations women, led by First Nations women.

The Role

Reporting to the Client Services Manager, this important and diverse role provides reception, administration and client support, whilst also being the first point of contact for the Centre’s existing clients and stakeholders. You will be responsible for responding to a range of enquiries from women seeking assistance, current clients, volunteers, probono partners and referring agencies. Duties will include: -

  • Manage and coordinate client appointment systems, bookings, reminders and scheduling requests
  • Ensure awareness of community organisations to support referrals or connection of clients to other agencies as required
  • Assist with regular reporting activities, including data entry and analysis tasks
  • Support all practice areas within the Centre through managing administrative systems and processes

Skills Required

You have a professional disposition and previous experience from reception and office administration roles. You can provide efficient administrative support, alongside your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, you bring: -

  • Natural ability to remain calm, resilient and adaptable to change in a busy working environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and empathically with a wide range of stakeholders, including from diverse backgrounds or those in distress and affected by trauma
  • Confidence using MS Office and familiarity with CRM systems and databases
