The Organisation

Arc is a student membership organisation that provides recreational, cultural, representational and retail services to the students at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The organisation employs 55 staff on a permanent basis and approximately 130 – 160 casual employees and has a turnover of $12,000,000 annually.

They operate the most iconic live music venue in Sydney ‘’Roundhouse’’ together with retail on campus, alongside their huge student clubs and volunteering programs. Arc is all about everything outside the classroom and at their core is making the student experience fun, enriching and social.

The Role

Reporting to the Corporate Services Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all HR aspects of this non-profit organisation, including the following tasks:

  • Lead a progressive HR department with a core focus on attracting and retaining high quality staff
  • Manage recruitment and on-boarding of permanent and casual staff
  • Facilitate regular employee feedback mechanisms
  • Report to the Board on a multitude of metrics on a quarterly basis
  • Update and implement strategic HR policies and procedures
  • Lead and inspire one direct report
  • Work alongside a payroll staff member and be the point of contact for WHS, ER and Workers Comp queries
  • Build relationships with cross functional teams and line managers

Skills Required

You will bring extensive knowledge of current HR issues, along with the ability to influence and collaborate with various stakeholders. You’ll have an approachable leadership style and be able to engage effectively with senior leaders and the student board. Specifically you will have:

  • Proven experience in leading HR functions
  • A strong people and culture background, including knowledge of Fairwork and employment legislation
  • Excellent people management skills including listening to and providing support to colleagues and students
  • The ability to implement HR strategy in line with the organisation’s goals
  • Familiar and confident using HRIS
  • Demonstrated success working in a hands on, operational HR role
