The Organisation

Established in 1979, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHVic) is the peak body for the neighbourhood house sector. With membership of over 400 independent and community based organisations across Victoria, Neighbourhood Houses are supported with strategic leadership and state-wide advocacy as well as sector-based research, advice and information to continue the development of the sector.

The Role

In partnership with Good Shepherd Australia and New Zealand, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria seeks to increase access within communities through the state based Neighbourhood Houses Network to the No Interest Loans (NILs) program. The NILs program provides individuals and families on low incomes with access to safe, fair and affordable credit through loans up to $1,500 for essential goods and services such as whitegoods, furniture, car repairs, education costs and medical procedures.

This 6-month role will work closely with the Neighbourhood House network (400+ across Victoria) to increase awareness of and referrals into NILS and provide financial capability training and support to Neighbourhood House staff and volunteers. It will also work closely with Good Shepherd to test this process and to develop a lasting partnership.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • Proven experience in lead creation in either a community or corporate environment
  • Understanding of financial literacy
  • Experience managing and negotiating with external stakeholders to deliver programs or services
  • Experience facilitating or presenting to stakeholder groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding working with low income cohorts
  • Qualifications in one of the following areas: financial capability, community development, microfinance, or equivalent demonstrated experience. Accounting, bookkeeping, financial management
