Join our team here at Council and make a real difference in the community! As the Youth Support Officer, you will provide casual support to the Youth development team for youth projects, events and programs in alignment with community needs, funding requirements, and organisational goals at the Nillumbik Youth Hub. A key objective of this role is to foster safe and inclusive group dynamics among youth and assist young people with their needs in navigating the youth service system.

What a typical day will look like;

  • Support the activities of the Youth Development team including day to day administration, programming, activities and event support or other relevant work as directed by the Team Leader Youth Development
  • Provide information, linkage and referral support to young people, families and the community regarding services, programs and activities for young people aged 12-25
  • Collaborate with the Youth Development team to identify needs in group settings and among individuals, creatively addressing participation barriers, and implementing support strategies. This includes using appropriate referral pathways to support their social, emotional, safety or other identified needs and goals

What you will bring to the role;

  • A minimum diploma level qualification in a relevant field e.g. youth work, community services, social work is desirable, or currently studying to obtain such a qualification.
  • A current Victorian drivers licence
  • Demonstrated experience working in an assessment and referral capacity using a person centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach with young people experiencing barriers to participation including at-risk young people
  • Experience organising and delivering a range of evidence-based community events, activities, initiatives and programs for young people
  • Capable of managing group dynamics in youth programs or activities, and addressing challenging behaviours to support positive and productive environments for young people
  • Exposure to providing holistic assessment, linkage and referral support to young people
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to engage and network with relevant youth services and other stakeholders
  • Understanding of the application of the Victorian Child Safe Standards to youth work practice
