About Inner Melbourne Community Legal

Inner Melbourne Community Legal (IMCL) is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides free legal assistance to disadvantaged people in the City of Melbourne area. Our mission is to promote social justice and the health and wellbeing of the community through advocacy, education and casework. We focus our resources towards helping the most disadvantaged members of the community including individuals experiencing homelessness, family violence, mental illness, disability, substance dependency and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Following an amalgamation of IMCL and Flemington Kensington Community Legal Centre in 2022, IMCL now operates across two offices in North Melbourne and Kensington, and delivers multiple integrated outreach services in partnership with other community organisations in the local area. Signature programs include our Health Justice Partnerships with major metropolitan hospitals, a family violence duty lawyer service, projects with homelessness agencies, the School Lawyer Program and the Police Accountability Project, which assists people experiencing police harm and advocates for systemic reform.

The role

This role will comprise the following key elements:

  • Lead and advise on the implementation of the strategic plan through the development and monitoring of an organisational workplan to help ensure all staff are aware of and contributing to our overall strategy
  • Support business development, including identifying new funding opportunities, partnerships and growth avenues
  • Lead the identification of and completion of funding applications and manage funding contracts, including reporting
  • Provide strategic oversight over evaluation and impact measurement
  • Oversee the systemic collection, analysis, sharing and use of internal and external evidence-based research to inform best-practice service design and funding advocacy
  • Lead engagement with community members, partners, stakeholders and supporters to promote IMCL’s ability to deliver on our theory of change and drive business development (including legal education delivery)
  • Oversee aspects of IMCL communications (website, marketing collateral, stakeholder)
  • Support strategic policy advocacy
  • Lead and manage project design, development, implementation and reporting, as well as supervise and mentor staff in project delivery across teams
  • Champion a culture of learning and continual improvement

IMCL highly values a diverse workforce. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, people living with a disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, people of all ages and people who identify as LGBTIQ+.
