The Northern Land Council (NLC) are seeking two Remote Housing Reforms Engagement Officers These positions offer the opportunity to make a tangible difference in remote communities through strong engagement, community-led solutions, and impactful policy development.

About the Role

Remote Housing Reforms Engagement Officers play a crucial role in monitoring and implementing housing reform initiatives as outlined in the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Housing Joint Steering Committee. Working as part of a collaborative team, this position will involve coordinating and facilitating engagement between the Northern Territory (NT) and Commonwealth Government agencies, Aboriginal residents, Communities and relevant local organisations. The focus will be on creating sustainable, healthy housing models and service delivery systems that are driven by local decision-making processes.

What you will bring

You will have experience in participatory planning and community development. Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and influential documents, such as project plans, reports, and briefings, and are comfortable traveling to remote communities engaging with Traditional Owners (TOs) and community residents to gather input and provide planning advice that will inform housing policies for remote communities and homelands. You have the ability to foster relationships with peak Aboriginal organisations and community-controlled housing services, both in the NT and nationally.

In addition to this, you will have: -

  • Minimum of Advanced Diploma in community development, social science, public administration, project management, or equivalent experience (4 years).
  • Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to build effective relationships and coordinate across diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge of the remote housing sector, including tenancy issues, property management, and policies affecting Aboriginal communities. Demonstrated understanding of the lived experiences of Aboriginal people in the NT.
  • Possession of a “C” class drivers licence and the ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles.

  • Base Salary $81,716 plus 14.5% superannuation
  • salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + Meal Entertainment and Holiday Accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
  • Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
    • District allowance of up to $4,797 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2,630 without dependents.
    • 5 weeks annual leave, leaving loading, 18 days personal leave;
    • Paid Christmas close down;
    • Upon completion of 12 months of service an Annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $2,961
