ABOUT THE OFFICE

Student Equity is responsible for supporting and developing initiatives to encourage a more diverse and inclusive student population to study and succeed at the University. Student Equity sits within the Curriculum & Quality Office.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of student equity initiatives (programs) which aim to increase participation and success of students from cohorts traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Programs engage with future and current university students and university staff, including the provision of scholarships and grants, process and service improvement, and professional learning.

This diverse role will support administration and reporting requirements for the implementation of the Higher Education Participation & Partnerships Program (HEPPP), as well as other grants and funding, designed to increase the participation of students from low socio-economic backgrounds, students from regional and remote areas, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on identified student equity activities that support students’ access, transition, retention, and success, including current scholarship and transition programs, and future programs in development.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including building positive relationships with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Coordinate identified Committees and Communities of Practice related to Student Equity.
  • Organise and implement engagement programs and activities, which may include communications, logistics, project management, coordinating external suppliers, and working with casual staff.
  • Support the effective evaluation and reporting of the HEPPP grant and other funding sources as required, including budget administration.
  • Provide practical support to other student equity initiatives as required, including those led by Faculties and other areas of the University.
  • Perform other responsibilities, commensurate with the expectations of a role at this level, which contribute to the overall objectives of the Office.

ABOUT YOU

  • Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Prior experience working with students or communities from low socio-economic backgrounds, from regional and remote areas, or Indigenous Australians.
  • Possession of a relevant degree level qualification and or subsequent relevant work experience or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education/training.
  • Experienced in assisting with program support and administration.
  • Proficient in application of Microsoft software and other computing systems.
  • Demonstrated strong organisational skills including time management, attention to detail, meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work respectfully and sensitively with a people from a range of diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the education system (secondary and/or tertiary), and the factors impacting the participation of equity cohorts in university studies, would be desirable.
