Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region in central Australia. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

Atunypa Wiru Minyma Uwankaraku Service is a domestic and family violence support and advocacy service for Aboriginal women and children living in the NPY region. The service is informed by a holistic relational understanding of violence which acknowledges the key role of family and community relationships.

We are now recruiting for a Child and Youth Therapeutic Worker to join the DFV service. The position, based in Finke, is focused on the provision of therapeutic care for the Domestic and Family Violence Service. It facilitates group and individual therapeutic sessions with children and young people, experiencing trauma as a result of exposure to, and experience of, domestic and family violence.

The role contributes to building capacity within the organisation to respond to domestic and family violence and works in accordance with the Strengthening Community Capacity to End Violence Practice Framework (SCCTEV) and will mentor others in this way of working.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a relevant degree in Social Work or related qualification, experience in child-centered therapeutic practice and/or a domestic and family violence context.

You will have an understanding of a holistic and relational approach to domestic violence service delivery relevant for cross-cultural contexts, as well as experience working with a trauma-informed, strengths-based and reflective approach. Experience working in Central Australia will be highly regarded.
