Based in APY Lands, South Australia, with some travel to Alice Springs, you will live, work and build lasting relationships within a local community and get to experience an amazing landscape!
People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply.
Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women's Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.
This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful difference with Aboriginal children and young people. The Specialist Children’s Domestic & Family Violence Worker (SCDFV) will be based remotely in Umuwa on the APY Lands, supporting a small caseload of children and young people exposed to domestic violence. The role focuses on providing culturally safe, therapeutic activities to promote healing, guided by an Anangu co-worker and community input, without offering clinical mental health services. Collaboration with other NPY Women's Council teams and external referrals will also be part of the role, helping to advocate for clients and build community capacity.
You will have relevant qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Early Childhood, or a related field. You will also have demonstrated experience working with children and young people in a therapeutic groupwork setting. Additionally, you will be able to align with the values and principles upheld by NPY Women’s Council, contributing to a culturally sensitive and supportive work environment. A willingness to participate in comprehensive orientation, best practice supervision, and ongoing professional development, including vicarious trauma training, is essential.
Applications for this role will take you to the employer’s site.
