The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre is seeking to recruit to the role of Early Intervention Family Law Solicitor based in Lismore. The scope of our family law assistance to clients is of an early-intervention nature and is provided in a non-adversarial and child focused way.

NRCLC is a not-for- profit, non-government organisation operating from a social justice perspective. Our target client groups are those for whom access to justice is not equitable, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, women experiencing domestic violence and people with disabilities.

Permanent role 21 hours per week.

The position is banded from SCHADS Award Grade 5 to Grade 6 with a salary range of $97,639.97 to $113,391.90 per annum pro rata (dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience), plus superannuation and leave loading. PBI Salary Packaging is also available and generous Enterprise Agreement provisions including 10 days additional leave during Christmas closure.

Essential Criteria

  • Current Practising Certificate, or eligibility to practice as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of NSW and High Court of Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in providing sound legal advice and assistance in Family Law matters including experience representing clients in Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Demonstrated experience working with and empathy for target client groups, including women experiencing or at risk of family violence, and demonstrated cultural competency with Aboriginal clients and communities
  • High order written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability to apply conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a co-operative and respectful work environment and to work with minimal supervision
  • Efficient computer skills
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel in the region and work at outreach locations

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Care and Protection matters
  • Knowledge of and experience in Community Legal Centres or Family Relationship Centres
  • Demonstrated experience in law reform activities
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of Community Legal Education
