  • Salary $97,639.97 to $113,391.90 pro rata plus Not-For Profit (NFP) salary packaging options.

Our multidisciplinary team is made up of solicitors, tenant advocates, community legal education staff, women’s domestic court advocates, paralegals, support staff and volunteers. This role sits within our Legal Service.

About our Locum Generalist/Civil Solicitor role

Are you someone who wants to help others and provide access to justice for those who might otherwise miss out? This role provides comprehensive legal advice and case work to vulnerable members of our community. Outreach rosters may also apply.

What an average day might look like…

  • Offering legal advice and assistance to vulnerable clients.
  • Attending outreach services to our program partners.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders (e.g. legal, community, corporate, etc.) to achieve effective client outcomes.
  • Representing NRCLC in internal and external meetings, activities and events.

Selection criteria

Essential Criteria

  • Current Practising Certificate, or eligibility to practice as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of NSW and High Court of Australia with at least 2 years post admissions experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice and assistance in Civil law.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and empathy for target client groups, including women experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities.
  • High order written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to and work at outreach locations including the Tweed and Richmond region.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of and ability to provide sound legal advice in relation to Consumer Law, Credit and Debt, Court/Tribunal Processes Employment Law and Discrimination Law.
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution skills and experience representing clients in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
  • Experience in the delivery of Community Legal Education.
