Overall purpose of program
The Philanthropy team sits within Stroke Foundation’s Fundraising and Marketing Division. The team’s purpose is to inspire and encourage more people to connect with Stroke Foundation’s mission and to contribute a significant gift towards the fight against stroke. This will ultimately lead to increased levels of funding for stroke programs and services.
Using various fundraising and marketing techniques to identify interest amongst the existing supporters and promoting Major and High-Value gifts to a broader audience, the Philanthropy team manages relationships with supporters (individuals and Private Ancillary Funds) and develops the High-Value and Major Gift programs.
Overall purpose of position
Reporting to the National Manager, Philanthropy, the primary objectives of the role are to:
- Grow the High-Value and Major Gifts Supporter Program by aligning donors’ interests with Stroke Foundation projects and funding requirements.
- Support the development and delivery of Major/High-Value Donor events and webinars with Stroke Foundation supporters and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the High-Value and Major Donor Supporter Program, ensuring timely outcomes and supporter engagement.
- Research, identify, qualify, and engage prospective Major Donor supporters.
- Collaborate with employees across the Fundraising and Marketing Division to create appeal materials, communications, and donor opportunities.
- Maintain accurate supporter databases in accordance with policies and relevant legislation.
- Support the planning and execution of Major Donor engagement opportunities and events.
- Prepare detailed and timely reports on Philanthropy team activities, funds raised, and KPIs.
- Represent and promote Stroke Foundation, identifying and nurturing potential Gifts in Wills supporters.
- Support the Philanthropy team and deputise for the National Manager, Philanthropy as needed.
- Assist the broader Fundraising and Marketing Division as required.
Your background, skills, and experience
Qualifications:

Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work-related experience in fundraising, events, sales, marketing, or related fields.
Skills:
- Exceptional customer service and relationship management skills, with clear ability to relate to people of varied ages and cultural backgrounds, particularly the elderly.
- Excellent phone technique, displaying a mature, ethical, professional manner that exhibits sensitivity, tact and discretion along with a commitment to a high standard of performance.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to positively inspire support from individuals.
- High level attention to detail, quality control and adherence to administrative procedures.
- Excellent time management, organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise, be flexible, adapt to varying workloads and to effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work well within a collaborative team environment, as well as independently, assuming responsibility for managing relationships with assigned supporters, completing nominated tasks and being accountable and reliable.
- Ability to demonstrate commitment and dedication to department and organisational goals and objectives.
- Ability to take a mature and professional approach in presenting to small/large groups.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in a fundraising and/or major gifts program and familiarity with the not-for-profit sector.
- Demonstrated experience in working with donor database systems (e.g. Salesforce, DonMan, ThankQ, Raiser’s Edge, or other) and competency in word processing and spreadsheet design.
- Experience writing proposals, applications, reports, correspondence, and presentations for different audiences to a high standard and in a timely manner.
- Experience in event and/or program management (desirable).
