The NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO), is a coalition of peak Aboriginal community-controlled organisations in NSW. The NSW CAPO provides a strong, coordinated, and united voice to address Aboriginal rights, including in the areas of health, education, housing and employment, amongst other sectors. NSW CAPO, through the national Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peaks, is a signatory to the National Agreement and is working in partnership with the NSW Government on its implementation in NSW.
The Community Engagement Facilitator, Government Accountability Mechanism position will be hosted by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC), the peak body for Aboriginal Land Rights in NSW and a member of NSW CAPO.
Working from the NSWALC Parramatta office or remotely, you will be part of a broader team of committed, passionate and expert people that strive for a culturally safe, inclusive and collaborative workplace environment that honours Indigenous Knowledges and Aboriginal governance structures and cultural values. You will have the opportunity to engage directly with senior Aboriginal leaders of NSWCAPO and will thrive in developing innovative Aboriginal-led solutions to complex problems and working with government to bring about real change for Aboriginal people. Your work will contribute to a national movement, led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations around the country, to change the way governments work to improve outcomes for First Nations people. You will share the excitement of driving structural changes to the way government works and partners with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations to deliver on the National Agreement.
The Community Engagement Facilitator will work with the NSW Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and communities to transform the way government works to close the gap, as part of seven new projects under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (National Agreement). This project fulfils commitments in the National Agreement and the NSW Implementation Plan under Priority Reform Three (PR3): Transforming Government Organisations.
As the Community Engagement Facilitator, you will play a key role in implementing the Government Accountability Team’s engagement strategy. The Community Engagement Facilitator will be responsible for organising and facilitating engagement activities with relevant stakeholders across NSW, including Aboriginal community members, ACCOS, and experts. In particular, the Community Engagement Facilitator will need to identify and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, promote meaningful engagement at consultations, facilitate workshops and meetings, take accurate records, and adapt their approach based on learnings. This role requires regular travel within NSW.
