NTAIC is a corporate Commonwealth entity, established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) 1976, and designed in partnership with Aboriginal Territorians. Our purpose is to work with Aboriginal Territorians to achieve economic, social and cultural impact through innovative approaches to investments, beneficial payments and other financial assistance. To support this, we have initial grant funding of $180 million and an investment corpus of $500 million. Our Aboriginal-controlled board share a vision of self-determination, with Aboriginal Territorians at the centre of NTAIC's work. 

Position Purpose:

This is a key senior executive role within NTAIC, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to business units within the Impact, Investments & Grants Group.

Your role will involve the deployment of capital through grant funding, soft loans and traditional and impact investment.

You will become a member of NTAIC’s newly formed Executive Team, where you will share responsibility for promoting organisational cohesion and a culture of continuous improvement in delivering NTAIC’s organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and organisational oversight to the Impact, Investments & Grants Group. 
  • Providing authoritative advice, regular updates and reports to the CEO, Board, Board Committees and Executive Team. 
  • Provide input to NTAIC’s Strategic Investment Plan to support the deployment of capital across grant funding and soft loans, Aboriginal impact investment (including real assets and Aboriginal enterprises) and financial portfolio investment.
  • Effective implementation of NTAIC’s investment, grants and financial assistance streams.
  • Developing the internal systems and capabilities to support Board and Investment Committee decision-making and oversight, particularly in relation to investment strategy.
  • Driving expert financial and investment analysis and regional and sectoral modelling, working jointly with investment analysts and other external advisors as required.
  • Developing appropriate internal controls, fraud controls, risk management and compliance frameworks for grant, financial assistance and investment activities.
  • Working with Aboriginal Traditional Owners, communities and enterprises to build NTAICs pipeline of potential impact investment opportunities.

Your passion, commitment and cultural capability to work with Aboriginal people and communities to achieve self-determination will be vital to your success in this role, as will your:

  • Understanding of traditional and impact investment principles and approaches
  • Ability to determine portfolio and risk management requirements. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead a range of complex projects through partnerships with people across different business areas, functions and organisations and deliver timely and high-quality outcomes. 
  • Proven influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills in an environment requiring highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for highly effective communication with a range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal people and organisations and government representatives. 
  • High level of autonomy and thought leadership.
