Legal Aid NT is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990 (NT). Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.
This role provides a unique opportunity to manage a regional Legal Aid office in the Northern Territory.
Under the supervision of the Associate Director Criminal Law Practice, the Managing Solicitor will manage and coordinate the Katherine Office, including supervision of solicitors and administrative staff. The Managing Solicitor will also undertake work as a criminal lawyer and represent Legal Aid NT as appropriate at regional activities.
This position will be required to commence on 1 July 2025.
You are an experienced Senior Crime Solicitor with significant experience in the practice of criminal law, including extensive advocacy experience. You will have demonstrated staff and practice management experience, including the capacity to supervise and train professional staff, manage change, as well as the ability to provide leadership in the provision of legal assistance to vulnerable people in the criminal justice system.
Crucial in your success in this role is your strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence and negotiate, to engage and build collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
