The Territory Rivers - Keep ‘Em Flowing campaign is a collaborative initiative supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Environment Centre Northern Territory (ECNT) that aims to secure better outcomes for people and nature along the iconic rivers of the Northern Territory.

The campaign aims to build public and political support for further safeguards, increased investment and a durable long term plan for healthy Territory Rivers. This role is focused on supporting communities to secure the long-term health of Northern Territory rivers, particularly raising the profile of key threats, better development opportunities and protecting wildlife that rely on these rivers and floodplains.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Community Campaigner will be responsible for leading engagement with the community, to build public awareness and support for further measures to support communities and healthy rivers, and for supporting engagement with key stakeholders and policy makers.

In particular, the Community Campaigner will:

1. Find and activate community networks and community leaders to involve them in our campaigns, both in Darwin, affected communities and beyond.
2. Plan and deliver regular community engagement activities, including information stalls and public events.
3. Engage as needed with key stakeholders and policy makers, including government officials and elected representatives.
4. Help develop local media stories and photo opportunities through contact with the community, and take part in presentations to local groups to build support for Territory Rivers.
5. Build and motivate a great team of dedicated volunteers to participate in community-based and office-based activities.
6. Work with our team to build an engaged online supporter base, by developing and promoting engaging and authentic online content.
7. Develop your skills as an effective conservation advocate and organiser so you can take on greater campaign opportunities and responsibilities.

TERMS

It is expected that the role will require a workload of 4 days (0.8 Full Time Equivalent) per week including some evening and weekend work.

• The fee scale is $60,000 - $70,000 FTE, depending on skills and experience.
• The contract is to 30 September 2022 with a further 12 month extension, subject to continued funding.
• The role will be based in Darwin CBD. Katherine based for the right candidate.

Essential

1. Excellent people skills.
2. Passion and energy to achieve great outcomes for conservation.
3. High levels of initiative and being well organised.
4. Ability to attract and motivate community volunteers.
5. Ability to work flexible hours including occasional weekends.
6. Standard office computer skills, a driver’s license and a car.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of conservation, ecology and water management.
2. Experience working with river communities, landholders and stakeholders.
3. Online communications/campaigning experience.
4. Event coordination skills

The Territory Rivers Campaigner is a contract position reporting to the Northern Territory Manager, Pew Charitable Trusts.
