About the Organisation: NUAA

The NSW Users and AIDS Association (NUAA) is a peer-based drug user organisation. NUAA strives to improve our advocacy for, and services supporting, the diversity of people impacted by stigma and discrimination caused by the criminalisation of drug use across NSW through working with a broad range of stakeholders and partners to support system change.

About the role

The DanceWize NSW Coordinator will bring experience in music festivals, volunteer coordination and other relevant expertise, including lived/living experience to their role. They will be responsible for volunteer management and retention and require strong interpersonal, organisational, and project coordination skills. This role will work autonomously within established guidelines under the general direction of the DW NSW Program Lead.

The DW NSW Coordinator will support senior staff by assisting with delegated tasks, taking initiative within defined responsibilities, and applying a solid understanding of NUAA’s strategic plan, policy positions, and activities in their day-to-day work.

objectives of the role

  • Event Management: Coordinating DanceWize NSW services at music festivals in NSW. Included are stakeholder engagement, planning, on site management, volunteer and casual rostering and other duties as required.
  • Volunteer Management: Coordinate the diverse and vibrant DanceWize NSW volunteer team including recruiting, line management where applicable and overall ongoing engagement and retention activities.
  • Work with the Community Engagement team to deliver ongoing training to DW NSW volunteers based on existing frameworks.
  • Support the Program Lead in ensuring compliance with the NSW Festival Guidelines
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of program deliverables and outputs for reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Support efforts to reduce the incidents and impact of drug-related harms at music festivals in New South Wales through community engagement and participation in NUAA programs such as drug alerts and drug checking.
  • Identify current and emergent key issues in the festival/ event scene by engaging with key stakeholders, including community health organisations, government officials, NGOs/ NFPs, researchers, emergency service providers and event promoters/ management to inform program delivery.
  • Identify current and emergent key issues through interactions and consultations with community members (people who attend music festivals).
  • Contribute positively to DanceWize NSW team culture and the overall NUAA work culture including participating in relevant NUAA committees.
  • Engage in program improvement activities.

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • One of the following qualifications:
    • Experience in volunteer management including working with volunteer management systems and data management
    • Experience working at music festivals or in a related industry
    • Experience working in harm reduction settings
  • You have an understanding of drug related harm reduction and the issues facing people who use drugs (including alcohol)
  • You can readily relate to and identify with the music festival community.
  • You can travel within NSW
  • Current unrestricted NSW drivers license
  • The ability to work flexibly e.g., to work nights and weekends (within SCHCADS Award definitions)
  • You have/ can obtain Working with Children's Check (WWCC) and First Aid Course certification

Desirable:

  • Two years experience working in harm reduction settings
  • Social work or related degree
