The Publications Specialist plays a crucial role in developing NUAA’s key publications (Users News, Insiders News) and innovative harm reduction resources.

This role involves leading the development and promotion of NUAA’s publications and resources, working closely with the Community Engagement team to enhance reach, diversity, and impact. The Publications Specialist also supports the implementation of NUAA’s communications strategy to ensure alignment with NUAA’s mission and values.

NUAA (NSW Users and AIDS Association) is a peer-led organisation that champions the health, human rights, and dignity of people who use or have used drugs. We provide trusted, community-driven harm reduction services, resources, and advocacy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include

As the Publications Coordinator, you will take ownership of NUAA’s print and digital publications, creating engaging, accessible content that supports harm reduction, health promotion, and community empowerment.

Your work will:

  • Expand the reach and impact of Users News and Insiders News.
  • Manage NUAA’s digital content, including the Users News website.
  • Develop innovative harm reduction resources for people in custodial settings.
  • Collaborate with community members, peer workers, and subject matter experts.
  • Support NUAA’s communications strategy to enhance public engagement.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Has experience in communications, media, or publishing (print & digital).
  • Is skilled in content creation, editorial processes, and project management.
  • Has a strong understanding of issues affecting people who use drugs.
  • Can translate complex information into engaging, accessible content.
  • Thrives in collaborative and peer-driven environments.
  • Is committed to ethical storytelling and harm reduction principles.

Desirable:

  • Experience in harm reduction, AOD, or community health sectors.
  • Knowledge of web content management and digital media best practices.
  • Experience reporting on and managing KPIs and contracted work.

Relevant qualifications include:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in communications, media, journalism, or a related field.
  • Associate diploma or other relevant certifications.
  • A combination of specialised skills and experience in lieu of formal qualifications.
