headspace is a youth service run under lead agency North and West Remote Health to deliver support to young people aged 12 – 25 years under four core areas of mental health, physical health, work and study, and alcohol and other drug services. We’re looking for a passionate, experienced, and dedicated person to join our team!

headspace Mackay is seeking a part-time Youth & Community Engagement Officer to join our team in Mackay (30.4 hours per week), working to promote the services of the headspace centre by increasing mental health literacy and awareness of the services while providing a link to access our services.

In this role, you will work to support young people who may be at risk or facing challenges in accessing appropriate early intervention services. You will also work closely with our multi-disciplinary clinical team across our headspace centres in Mackay and Whitsundays to understand the headspace model and identify opportunities to promote our services in your wider community.

Reporting to the Mackay Centre Manager, the ideal candidates will develop and facilitate multiple programs, events and activities targeted at young people of the Mackay region, and their family and friends to increase engagement of headspace services.

Skills and experience

The right candidate will have/be working toward suitable qualifications in Youth, Health Promotion, Public Health, Community Development, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work/Planning or related discipline.

In addition, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and other social issues
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events and activities within a community
  • Strong experience and expertise with social media management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate community awareness events
  • A current, unrestricted 'C' class Australian Driver's Licence
  • The right to live and work in Australia

Successful candidates will receive an excellent rate of up to $31.230 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience, plus super.
