ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Established in 2000, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) has grown to become Australia’s leading independent body dedicated to funding national ovarian cancer research.

With the support of the Australian community, major corporate partners, philanthropic supporters and OCRF Ambassadors, the OCRF is now Australia’s pre-eminent charitable foundation dedicated to raising funds for the most innovative ovarian cancer research with the most significant long-term impact.

Our goals are to raise the current 5-year survival rate from 49% to greater than 90%, and to provide hope, advocacy, agency and engagement for our community of survivors – with government, funders, collaborators, partners and the medical research community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Communications Director is a newly-created leadership role at the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). This position is responsible for strategic direction and oversight of the OCRF’s corporate and cause communication strategies, and is therefore instrumental in raising awareness of the value of investment in women’s gynaecological health and equity in Australia, and of the critical support required for ovarian cancer research.

Overseeing cornerstone projects of the new four-year strategy (2024-2028) and together with the CEO and senior management team, the role is responsible for developing and executing a whole of organisation narrative framework to engage new and existing audiences with the OCRF’s vision, mission, activities, and impact.

This includes evolution of the OCRF’s communications approach, key messages, media engagement, and other promotional campaigns, to ensure consistent voice, compelling content creation, and strong results with a small but growing team.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the OCRF’s strategic narrative framework
  • Lead consumer/community/brand research to increase understanding of OCRF core audiences
  • Provide strategic direction for OCRF’s national promotional campaigns
  • Nurture high-quality internal and external relationships for the OCRF
  • Lead continuous improvement of OCRF channels to produce seamless, high-quality and timely creative content and communications
  • Contribute to a high performing and thriving work culture

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate is a highly-motivated strategic thinker; a strongly collaborative and adaptable leader; and a bold, courageous communicator. We’re seeking candidates with the following mix of experience and skills:

  • Significant senior communications experience that includes a blend of strategic communications, storytelling, corporate and media relations
  • Experience working with reputable mainstream media, agencies, and other partners to achieve best practice outcomes
  • Outstanding relationship management skills
  • Strong analytical, writing, editing, listening and verbal skills for memorable communications across diverse audiences
  • Outstanding negotiation, influencing and presentation skills
  • Relevant qualification in communications, journalism, media and/or lengthy period of relevant experience in related field
