About Odyssey House Victoria:

Odyssey House Victoria (OHV) is a place of hope and positive change for individuals working towards breaking their pattern of addiction. At Odyssey House we believe that every person should have the opportunity to change and grow. Our diverse teams work with individuals, families, and communities to reduce alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, improve mental health, and reconnect people to their family and the community. OHV is a dynamic and fast-growing organisation committed to excellence in service provision and innovation in responding to alcohol and other drugs use problems.

About our Circuit Breaker Program (CB):

The Therapeutic Community (TC), Benalla, is a short-term Circuit Breaker residential program. The Circuit Breaker program provides a six-week, live-in rehabilitation program in north-east Victoria for people affected by alcohol and other drug addiction and associated mental health issues. The program accommodates 15 adults and aims to help people end the chaos associated with a substance dependent lifestyle, establish healthier relationships, promote personal change, and support them in their recovery journey.

About this role:

The Duty Worker helps oversee the operation of the program. The key purpose of the position is to act as the first point of contact and provide an appropriate operational response to resident issues, following established procedures. Key areas of focus:

  • Implementing schedule of events for each day.

  • Facilitate group sessions, including managing conflict through the communique process.
  • Supporting the organisation of house activities for residents (e.g. games, music, art, other recreational activities).
  • Fulfilling duties of a First Aid Officer performing first aid in the workplace, as compensated through a FAO allowance.
  • Administering medication as prescribed, including organising emergency medical appointment, as necessary.
  • Managing after hours petty cash in accordance with TC cash handling procedures.
