About our Registered Training Organisation:

The Odyssey Institute holds registration with VicRoads for the provision of drink and drug driver behaviour change programs. The Institute coordinates, promotes, and delivers the VicRoads Drink and Drug Drive Behaviour Change Programs, and retains the required registration requirements with VicRoads. The Odyssey Institute is also a registered training organisation (RTO ID 20995) and has a Skills First contract with the Department of Education and Training for the provision of government subsidised training. Along with fee for service contracts held with health and welfare agencies. Odyssey Institute holds a strong strategic position in the health and community services industry sectors for provision of quality training and assessment services.

About this role:

The key purpose of this position is to deliver the VicRoads Drink and Drug Drive Behaviour Change Program (BCP). This Victorian Government mandated program is for individuals who want to get their driver’s licence back after a suspension under the revised drink and drug driver legislation and as part of the Victorian government’s Towards Zero: Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan.

The Behaviour Change Programs is a structured therapeutic group intervention underpinned by Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural principles and skills. The program is manualized with a facilitator handbook, power points, and a participant handbook.

The two types of programs we deliver are:

  1. Drink Driver Program and Drug Driver Program: This program run for six hours, comprising two, three-hour sessions conducted over consecutive weeks, additional time is needed for a break. As well as presession engagement and referral & follow-up when needed.
  2. Intensive Drink and Drug Driver Program: Clients who attend this program will consist of a minimum of 10 hours involving three, 3-hour group sessions plus a break and an individual session. An additional one-session program is required for those attending the Drink Drive BCP. The facilitator needs to allow for 90 minutes for each of the 1 to 1 session.

Facilitators are required to be approved by VicRoads through a two-stage process. The first is via submission and assessment of documents related to qualifications and experience. The second is via an audit of the facilitation of the program.

Key areas of focus:

Approved Facilitators are responsible for the delivery of the Program in accordance with the Drink and Drug Driver BCP Facilitator Handbooks.

  • The Approved Facilitator must only facilitate the behaviour change program for which they are provisionally approved or approved.
  • At the completion of delivery of a program, the Approved Facilitator is responsible for:
    • issuing a Certificate of Completion
    • discussing the issuing of an assertive (facilitated) referral for further assessment of problematic substance use (alcohol and or other drugs)
    • monitor, record, and report on participant attendance, case noting and other reports as required
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision, this is generally group supervision and individual and debriefing is available as required.

Who are WE looking for?

We are looking for an experienced, professional, and motivated facilitator to deliver our Drink, Drug, Drive Behavioural Change Program, in accordance with VicRoads requirements. Someone who is keen to engage with our diverse individuals and exercise empathy with participants attempt to change behaviour and to regain their driver license status.
To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Hold the following units of competency:
    • Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues (Course code CHCAOD004)
    • Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues (Course code CHCAOD006)
    • Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans (Course code CHCAOD009)
    • Managing small groups and group-work (available in multiple Training Packages)
  • Bachelor level qualifications in psychology, social work, health, human services, or a related discipline.
  • At least two years’ experience working in groups and being able to lead groups through a variety of interactive activities
  • At least two years working with offender populations. Working with mandated clients and behaviour change interventions with a reputable drug and alcohol treatment provider.
  • Completion of Forensic Fundamentals training, or equivalent at the time of application
  • Hold a valid Victorian drivers license with no more than six (6) demerit points including evidence of having had no license disqualification or suspensions.
  • Approved training in Motivational Interviewing foundation skills (post-2012)
  • Proficient use and analysis of screening and assessment tools and referral process.

Evidence of such vaccination status will be requested during the onboarding process and offers will be rescinded where such evidence cannot be provided.
