Context & Purpose of Role

We are launching key projects in 2025, including a refugee-focused project, cancer awareness initiative, and a community-building programme in Sri Lanka. To support these exciting initiatives, we are seeking a dynamic and organised Arts Projects Coordinator to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to lead impactful projects that engage and empower communities. If you are passionate about art, community building, and social justice, and have strong project management skills, we would love to have you join us in making a difference through art.

We recognise that many communities—especially those who are displaced, marginalised, and disenfranchised—face significant barriers to equitable opportunities, representation, and social inclusion. Through pioneering art projects, Ondru provides a powerful platform for these communities to share their stories, experiences, and voices. Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding of the human condition, inspire meaningful discussion, and enable reconciliation.

Time Commitment

  • 5 to 7 hours a week in total (2 hours face-to-face attendance at Ondru Studio or pop-up office location in CBD on a weeknight)
  • Face-to-face attendance at a monthly workshop (5 hours on a weekend)
  • A minimum commitment for a period of 6 months
  • Must be Melbourne-based to ensure connectivity

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

The position is responsible for:

  • Project Management: Take a lead role in the planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring, and closing of art projects, ensuring they meet objectives and timelines.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with the CEO, associate artists, and the Art Projects team to develop and oversee the delivery of impactful art projects.
  • Stakeholder Management: Foster and manage relationships with key stakeholders involved in art projects, including artists, partners, and community groups.
  • Creative Research: Conduct research to support the creative development and delivery of art projects, ensuring they resonate with the communities we serve.
  • Artist & Personnel Coordination: Assist in identifying and recruiting aligned artists and other creative and non-creative personnel to support project success.
  • Budget Management: Support the effective management of project budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Administrative Support: Manage administrative tasks, including preparing and editing support letters, reports, and correspondence, as well as scheduling meetings with stakeholders and handling ad-hoc errands.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A passion for people and a strong commitment to the purpose and values of Ondru.
  • Demonstrated sound experience in community project management, or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, “hands-on” approach with the ability to take initiative and drive results.
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficient in computer literacy, with access to your own laptop.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position it is preferred that you have:

  • Tertiary qualification (or studying towards one) in relevant field;
  • Open-minded with a willingness to challenge your own thinking and have the ability to adapt and be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation;
  • Be committed to working in a team environment while promoting respect, inclusivity and collaboration; and
  • Be hardworking, hands on, energetic and vibrant.
