Context & Purpose of Role
We are launching key projects in 2025, including a refugee based project, cancer awareness project, and a community-building initiative in Sri Lanka. We seek a Human Resources Coordinator to refine HR processes, support recruitment, and enhance workplace culture. This role will work closely with the CEO and leadership to develop a people-centred approach that aligns with our mission and values.

Time Commitment
- 5 to 7 hours a week in total (2 hours face-to-face attendance at Ondru Studio or pop-up office location in CBD on a weeknight)
- Face-to-face attendance at a monthly workshop (5 hours on a weekend)
- A minimum commitment for a period of 6 months
- Must be Melbourne-based to ensure connectivity
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The position is responsible for:
- HR Advisory & Strategy: Provide expert advice on HR matters and develop innovative strategies to attract and retain the right people.
- Recruitment & Culture: Ensure the right people join at the right time, fostering a values-driven and purpose-led team.
- HR Systems & Processes: Enhance, maintain, and implement efficient HR policies, systems, and workflows.
- Volunteer Management: Develop best practices across the volunteer lifecycle, ensuring legal compliance and a positive experience.
- Onboarding & Administration: Oversee inductions, documentation, offboarding, and website updates to support seamless operations.
- People & Culture Initiatives: Design and implement engaging activities and strengthen organisational culture.
Key Selection Criteria
- Passionate about people and a commitment to the purpose and values of Ondru;
- Demonstrated sound experience in HR or business management;
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills;
- Able to use initiative and “make things happen” (i.e. ‘hands on’ approach);
- Possess high levels of personal and professional integrity and confidentiality; and
- Excellent computer literacy skills and must have your own laptop.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position it is preferred that you have:
- Tertiary qualification (or studying towards one) in relevant field;
- Open-minded with a willingness to challenge your own thinking and have the ability to adapt and be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation;
- Be committed to working in a team environment while promoting respect, inclusivity and collaboration; and
- Be hard-working, hands on, energetic and vibrant.
