Context & Purpose of Role
Ondru is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Officer to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Ondru’s growth and success by ensuring that the organisation operates in full legal compliance across a range of initiatives. As a key member of the team, you will play an essential role in the development and implementation of legal processes that safeguard Ondru’s interests, strengthen partnerships, and support our community-based projects.

Time Commitment
- 5 to 7 hours a week in total (2 hours face-to-face attendance at Ondru Studio or pop-up office location in CBD on a weeknight)
- Face-to-face attendance at a monthly workshop (5 hours on a weekend)
- A minimum commitment for a period of 6 months
- Must be Melbourne-based to ensure connectivity
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The position is responsible for:
- Legal Research: Ensure Ondru adheres to domestic and international legal frameworks.
- Project Compliance: Oversee legal and ethical compliance for interstate and international projects.
- Legal Support & Risk Management: Provide legal advice on various matters, including risk, compliance and governance matters.
- Funding & Partnerships Compliance: Ensure legal integrity in funding agreements and collaborations.
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Prepare and review agreements, including NDAs, MOUs, and partnership contracts.
- Intellectual Property Management: Protect and manage Ondru’s creative and legal assets.

- Demonstrated sound experience in legal work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive, “hands-on” approach with the ability to take initiative and drive results.
- High levels of personal and professional integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Proficient in computer literacy, with access to your own laptop.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position it is preferred that you have:
- Tertiary qualification (or studying towards one) in relevant field;
- Open-minded with a willingness to challenge your own thinking and have the ability to adapt and be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation;
- Be committed to working in a team environment while promoting respect, inclusivity and collaboration; and
- Be hard-working, hands on, energetic and vibrant.
