About OneWave:

OneWave is a non-profit surf community raising awareness of mental health through a simple recipe…saltwater therapy, surfing, and fluro. We believe everyone should have the chance to ride waves and talk about mental health. Since launching in Bondi in 2013, OneWave has held Fluro Friday events at over 200 beaches across more than 50 countries, raising awareness around mental health, reducing stigma, and helping people free the funk. OneWave also runs 'Free the Funk' Programs in schools and workplaces, which have impacted more than 50,000 people.

Position Overview:

OneWave is seeking a General Manager to join our team on an initial 6-month contract starting in September 2024 to help us give more people the chance to ride waves and talk about mental health. This role is crucial in overseeing all aspects of OneWave’s operations, programs, team, and finances. The successful candidate will work closely with the OneWave Founder during a one-month handover period in September 2024. After the handover period, the OneWave Founder will continue to work alongside the General Manager one day per week to help with the transition, while the successful candidate will subsequently report to the OneWave Board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Oversee daily operations, ensuring the effective implementation of OneWave's programs and initiatives.
    • Lead and support the OneWave team, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment - this includes 15+ volunteer Fluro Friday Tribe Leaders plus other volunteers.
  • Program Management and Development:
    • Implementation and management of all programs including Fluro Friday, Free the Funk School Program, and the Corporate Program.
    • Develop and implement new programs that align with OneWave’s values and mission.
    • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed.
  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee OneWave’s financial health, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • Governance:
    • Work closely with the OneWave Board to ensure effective governance practices.
    • Prepare and present regular reports to the Board, providing updates on operational and financial status.
  • Funding:
    • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with donors and sponsors.
  • Marketing & Social Media:
    • Develop and execute marketing strategies to increase awareness and engagement.
    • Manage OneWave's social media presence and content creation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including volunteers, partners, and the community.

  • Funding & Fundraising Expertise:
    • Demonstrated ability to secure funding through grants, partnerships, and fundraising activities. Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Marketing & Social Media Skills:
    • Strong experience in developing and executing marketing strategies. Proficiency in managing social media platforms and creating engaging content.
  • Public Speaking:
    • Passionate and confident public speaker with the ability to deliver talks to communities, schools, and workplaces.
  • Excellent Financial Management:
    • Excellent financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Governance:
    • Governance experience with a charitable organization.
  • Board Experience:
    • Experience working with a board of directors.
