Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) is Brisbane’s largest provider of housing and homelessness support services for young people aged 12-25 and their children.

BYS provides a comprehensive range of health and support services, including the BYS Medical Clinic, the Mental Health/AOD Team, Counselling and Therapeutic Programs, and Psychiatry and Psychology services. These programs are integrated with housing, crisis support, and employment pathway services to provide holistic care for vulnerable young people.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nurse Leader or Medical Doctor to take on the pivotal role of Clinical Health Services Director, leading the strategic development and delivery of BYS’s youth-focused clinical services.

This position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity for a Senior Nurse Leader or Medical Doctor with strong clinical governance expertise to move into an executive leadership role that will directly impact the health and wellbeing of young people.

As Clinical Health Services Director, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and continuous improvement of BYS’s clinical services, ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance, risk management, service delivery, and accreditation compliance. You will work closely with the Executive Team to shape organisational strategy, identify growth opportunities, and secure funding to expand services for young people experiencing homelessness, trauma, and complex health needs.

This role will appeal to a highly motivated and experienced health professional who thrives in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment. With demonstrated leadership skills, you will provide mentorship, supervision, and strategic guidance to a team of clinical staff, driving innovation and excellence in service delivery. You will also play a key role in stakeholder engagement and funding acquisition, building partnerships across the health, government, and community sectors to enhance service accessibility and sustainability.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in either:

  • Nursing (Bachelor of Nursing, with a Master's in Nursing, Clinical Governance, Business, Leadership, or a related field), or
  • Medicine (Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery [MBBS], Doctor of Medicine, or equivalent).

Additionally, you must be:

A registered health practitioner with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), with eligibility for membership in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Experienced in clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement within a health service environment.

Skilled in interpreting data for reporting, particularly for funding bodies and accreditation compliance.

A strategic thinker with excellent business acumen, strong budget and resource planning expertise, and experience navigating government contracts, grants, and philanthropic funding opportunities.

A strong leader and communicator, capable of mentoring, motivating, and supporting multidisciplinary teams in a complex healthcare setting.
