WHAT WE DO
Orana Haven Aboriginal Corporation is a leading provider of drug and alcohol services for Aboriginal people in Western NSW. It runs an established residential rehabilitation service near Brewarrina as well as the Weigelli & Orana Haven Hub Project in Bourke, Walgett and Parkes. It is currently expanding its model of care to include the provision of Aboriginal detox services in Brewarrina.
ABOUT THE HUB PROJECT
The Weigelli & Orana Haven Hub Project provides community-based case management for Aboriginal people with drug and alcohol issues in rural and remote areas of Western NSW. The main Hubs are in Parkes, Walgett and Bourke, and there is also an Aboriginal Learning and Healing Centre located in Peak Hill. Unique community-based responses to drug and alcohol issues have been developed in each location. The Hub Project is a collaboration between Weigelli and Orana Haven Residential Rehabilitation Centres. It is supported by a remote management team located in Brewarrina, Cowra and Orange and is funded by Western NSW PHN and the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
THE ROLE
The Drug and Alcohol Case Worker – Weigelli & Orana Haven Hub Project is responsible for the delivery of culturally-appropriate case management to Aboriginal clients and their families experiencing substance misuse and dependence across a designated geographical area. A key component of the role includes establishing and maintaining strong community linkages with service providers and stakeholders in order to address the impact of alcohol and other drugs on individuals, their families and the community.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Provide culturally-appropriate assessment, referral and other case management support to Aboriginal clients of the Weigelli & Orana Haven Hub Project;
- Provide therapeutic support to clients with alcohol or other drug issues and/or refer to appropriate clinical services, within an integrated stepped care model;
- Conduct regular individual sessions with clients in each geographical area;
- Facilitate educational and therapeutic group work;
- Provide psychosocial support, assistance with appointments and other support to clients as required;
- Actively participate in interagency meetings, community collaboration and events;
- Actively participate in team meetings, professional supervision and clinical practice improvement as requested;
- Conduct all work duties in accordance with Orana Haven Aboriginal Corporation values, policies and procedures;
- Other related duties as required.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Certificate IV or Diploma qualification (or above) in a relevant area or be currently enrolled in training (e.g. Aboriginal Health, Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Community Services, Youth Work);
- Demonstrated experience working with rural and remote Aboriginal communities in Western NSW;
- Demonstrated experience in assessment and case planning, including clients with complex needs (e.g. co-occurring drug and alcohol issues along with homelessness, mental health, contact with criminal justice system, family violence);
- Demonstrated experience in managing case plans, including clinical activities and welfare issues;
- Knowledge of and ability to liaise with a range of relevant community services in developing referral pathways;
- Ability to organise, facilitate and evaluate groups;
- Client and family-centred approach;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a professional, non-judgmental manner;
- Able to liaise with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and individuals;
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to work independently;
- Computer literacy skills including experience recording client data in computerised databases;
- Willingness to work within the values, policies and procedures of Orana Haven Aboriginal Corporation;
- A current, unencumbered Drivers Licence;
