Tenancy Support Worker - Housing Families Program

Orana House provides a suite of services to support women and children who have experienced family and domestic violence. We have been leading the Housing Families Program since September 2021. The program works in collaboration with Real Estate Agents, Property Managers and Landlords to increase their understanding of the needs of women and children who have experienced family and domestic violence in order to enable more families to successfully move on from crisis accommodation into safe, secure housing in the private rental market. Due to the success of the program to date, the Department of Communities have extended the funding until June 2026.

The role of the Housing Families Tenancy Support worker will be to work alongside the coordinator to assess and respond to referrals, provide individual support to clients to determine their eligibility for the program, provide individual assistance to attend viewings, make applications, sign tenancy agreements, complete property condition reports, organise moving and make other suitable referrals to assist them to maintain their tenancies for a period of 6-12months. Close liaison with both the client and the property managers will be a key requirement to quickly address any concerns as they arise and increase the number of successful tenancies.

We are seeking an energetic and organised individual with knowledge of FDV and tenancy support and a passion to advocate for women and children. This is 40 hours per fortnight role based at our offices in Maylands and Noranda and working across the metropolitan area of Perth. Some flexibility of hours will be required to attend events outside normal business hours such as home opens.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Understanding and experience of risk assessment and safety planning with women who have experienced family and domestic violence
  • Knowledge of housing and tenancy processes and relevant referral pathways
  • Strong written, verbal and IT communication skills
  • Ability to work in a culturally appropriate way whilst advocating for clients and their needs
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and report outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adhere to privacy and confidentiality principles.
  • Commitment to working within Orana’s Vision and Mission
  • A current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Card
  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured vehicle
