About the job

The Design Lead will help drive user-centred design strategy for Orygen Digital’s youth mental health products and services. While remaining hands-on with user experience and strategic design, the Design Lead will guide a small team of senior designers, fostering best practices across the end-to-end design process.

Reporting to the Head of Product and Service Development you will;

  • Lead Design Discovery: Drive user-centred design for major initiatives through hands-on user research, co-design sessions, and design tools such as journey maps and prototypes. Engage closely with young people, clinicians, and stakeholders to inform impactful solutions.
  • Shape Design Strategy and Impact: Establish processes and principles to support best practice design across projects. Champion participatory design and data-informed experimentation to drive service innovation.
  • Ensure High-Quality Design Execution: Oversee the end-to-end design process, ensuring design solutions are implemented effectively and iteratively refined based on feedback and business goals.
  • Lead a High-Performing Team: Cultivate a collaborative team culture, and support professional growth through mentorship, feedback, and strategic direction.
  • Promote Design Culture at Scale: Advocate for design-led thinking across Orygen Digital, collaborating with research, strategy, and implementation teams to embed user insights into organisational decision-making.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • Tertiary qualification in design and extensive experience as a UX, service, or strategic designer, with a strong focus on digital products and startup environments.
  • Passion for mentoring and leading design teams, with a proven track record of motivating and developing talent.
  • Skilled in driving design discovery and agile product design processes to deliver high-quality digital experiences.
  • Strong communicator with expertise in inclusive facilitation, visual storytelling, and strategic design leadership.
  • Driven to push for impact and shape innovation in youth mental health through design thinking and methodologies.
