About the job

The Learning Management System (LMS) Developer will join a dynamic team of clinicians and academics contributing to Orygen’s service innovation, workforce education, and research translation initiatives. This role supports the development and management of Orygen’s internal software systems, with a focus on the Moodle LMS, Xcelerate Student Management System (SMS), and related platforms.

Reporting to Director, Workforce Development and Service Implementation you will:

  • Reporting & Evaluation: Prepare and deliver meaningful reports and metrics on LMS usage and learning activities to support planning and evaluation; assist with survey creation and data analysis.
  • Student Management System (SMS) Oversight: Manage and enhance SMS functionality, develop system integrations, and provide technical support to meet diverse RTO needs.
  • User Support & Training: Troubleshoot technical issues, support webinars, maintain user manuals, and deliver training to both internal staff and external users.
  • LMS Development & Maintenance: Customize and maintain Moodle LMS themes and plugins, ensure smooth system delivery, implement security best practices, and enhance design and usability in collaboration with communications and IT teams.
  • System Performance & Security: Monitor LMS performance, apply updates and patches, and coordinate with IT to maintain infrastructure, disaster recovery processes, and user privacy protection.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • A relevant qualification in IT – Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of IT or similar.
  • Prior experience working with Moodle or a similar Learning Management System and knowledge of best practice for web security and experience with security configurations in Moodle.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team, with evidence of sound conflict resolution skills.
  • Previous experience in web development using PHP, MySQL, HTML, SCSS, JavaScript and jQuery, Unix-based systems, Unix shell scripting and SSH and source code management tools, including Git
  • Proven experience with web server configuration and management, including Apache and HTTPD software.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE) 12-month contract.
